Uma Thurman is currently the "face" of Virgin Media in the United Kingdom and, along with Scarlett Johansson, models handbags and other fashion items for clothes designer Louis Vuitton. At 6 feet (1.8 meter) tall, she is one of the tallest actresses in Hollywood.
Uma Thurman is best known for her role as Mia Wallace in the 1994 international hit Pulp Fiction. Armed with a black wig and a script blessed with originality, Uma gave a stunning performance. Her character, a person who apparently likes to stick her nose where it didn't belong, both dazzled and shocked the audience. The overwhelming success of the critically-acclaimed film gave a shot of adrenaline to her career and garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The next few years saw her working mostly on small-budget art house films except for her appearance as Poison Ivy in Batman and Robin. Uma's perfect face has also reached a new-level of ubiquity thanks to her contract with cosmetics giant Lancфme. In 2003, with the release of the much anticipated Kill Bill, Quentin Tarantino's muse is once again at the center of attention, this time as a former assassin bent on revenge.
Few people remember that Thurman began her career as a fashion model at the age of 15. She signed with the agency Click Models. Uma followed in the footsteps of her mother, who was also a fashion model. Standing almost six feet tall with a naturally lanky frame, Thurman was an immediate success, and her modeling credits included Glamour Magazine. In 1989, she appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, for the annual “Hot issue”.
In the film she played a New Jersey woman in the 1980s searching for romance. The San Francisco Chronicle review wrote, “Thurman so commits herself to the role, eyes blazing and body akimbo, that you start to believe that such a creature could exist — an exquisite looking woman so spastic and needy that she repulses regular Joes. Thurman has bent the role to her will”.
It is interesyed to note that though Thurman was raised a Buddhist and still identifies with Buddhism, she considers herself agnostic.
