Christian Marie Marc Lacroix, born in May 16, 1951 in Arles France, Lacroix is a French fashion designer.

As a child Lacroix spent time at art museums, enjoyed reading books from the attic, he attended bullfighting events and enjoyed Gypsy and Provincial traditions. In his youth Lacroix liked Oscar Wilde and the Beatles. He studied Art History at the University of Montpellier, and in 1973 went on to the Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre. His aspiration during this time was to become a museum curator. It was during this time he met his future wife Francoise.

In 1973 he also met Jean-Jacques Picart, a connected persona with several haute couture houses. With the help of Picart, Lacroix started working in Hermes, afterwards with Guy Paulin, and in 1981 he started working for Jean Patou. Lacroix managed to put out season after season of popular clothing. Bright colors, luxuriance, and perfection making Lacroix and Picart the popular designers of the time.

In 1987 Lacroix gained the award for "most influential designer" by the CFDA for foreign designers. The same year Lacroix opened his own couture house. In 1988 he began putting out ready-to-wear collections drawing inspiration from diverse cultures. In 1989, Lacroix launched jewelry, handbags, shoes, glasses, scarves and ties. Following that he opened boutiques within Paris, Arles, Toulouse, London, Geneva and Japan.

His collections were based on old culture and folklore and fables of the past. He includes past traditions from all around the world, continuing the line with even more on ethnic arts. Lacroix is also known for his theatrical style which came from his work while in the theatre. This usually shows up with his use of colour in the collections he designs. Along with this, he is also known for his 'le pouf' gown (featuring the ball skirt), as well as closing all his haute couture fashion shows with a model dressed up as a bride.

In October 2002 after the presentation of his spring/summer 2003 collection, Lacroix resigned from the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur by Bernard Arnault, Chairman of LVMH. He served as the Creative Director for the Italian fashion house Emilio Pucci from 2002 till 2005 and left on agreeable terms.

Christian Lacroix has designed many dresses for Hollywood stars among them was the wedding dress of Grammy award winning Christina Aguilera, in the 1990s, famed for being the favorite designer of "Edina Monsoon" from the hit UK sitcom "Absolutely Fabulous". He has also been the designer of the new uniform of Air France staff and crew in 2004.

Christian Dior

Fashion Designer Christian Dior (1905-1957) born in Normandy, France. Acceding to his parents' wishes to become a diplomat, Christian Dior attended the Ecole des Sciences Politiques from 1920 to 1925, but his only wish was to be involved in the arts. After Military service in the 1930s Dior started doing sketches for haute couture houses and in 1938 he was hired by Robert Piguet. In 1946 he designed for Marcel Boussac. Boussac was interested in Dior's new idea using lots of layers of extravagant fabrics. Following that Dior established his main fashion house in 1949 with the backing of Boussac. His designs were sensual, feminine; he was a master at creating shapes and silhouettes; giving his models a very curvaceous form. His "New Look" revolutionized women's dresses and reestablished Paris as the center of the fashion world after World War II.

In 1953, Dior hired Yves Saint Laurent as an assistant. After Dior's sudden death in October 1957 in Italy, Saint Laurent became head designer and introduced the trapeze dress in his first collection for the house. When Saint Laurent was called for military duty in 1960, Marc Bohan took over, remaining until Gianfranco Ferre became designer in 1989. In 1996 John Galliano took over the reins to become the Chief Fashion designer at Dior.

Chloe

10:26 AM / Posted by Syed Sabhi Zaidi / comments (0)

Chloe was founded in 1952 by gaby aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisian with a dark beauty and a bohemian spirit. rejecting the stiff formality of the 50's fashion, she created soft, body conscious clothes from fine fabrics and called them "luxury pr?t-?-porter". unique for their time, they were beautifully made clothes available off the rack.

In 1956, gaby aghion and her business partner, Jacques Lenoir, debuted the first collection over breakfast at caf? de Flore, which, as the city's infamous meeting ground for existentialists and artists, was one of their own favorite haunts.

"Chloe" - a name they chose for its warm, feminine appeal - was perfectly in synch with the new mood of Paris : youthful and modern in design, and slightly audacious in spirit.

The label grew in popularity, and gaby aghion and Jacques Lenoir initiated what would become the hallmark of the house : hiring new, young talents to design the collections.

In the 60's, Chloe hothouse a group of youthful left bank designers who later defined the Paris ready-to-wear movement, "le style".

In 1966, Karl Lagerfeld became the house's head designer, and under his direction Chloe became one of the most iconic fashion brands of the 1970's. Jackie Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot, Maria Callas and Grace Kelly all came to Chloe's boutique in the 7eme in search of luxurious daywear. with its romantic, gauzy blouses and long skirts, Chloe defined the look of a generation.

In the 80's, a series of talented designers including Martine Sitbon kept the collections fresh and ever-changing, whilst reiterating Chloe's quixotic ability to be both cutting-edge and timeless at once.

After the house was bought by the luxury goods conglomerate Richemont Group in 1985, its notoriety grew around the globe.

In 1997, Stella McCartney reinvented Chloe once more, with a romantic yet streetwise mix of vintage lingerie, tailoring, and signature low-rider trousers that hit a nerve with young women around the world and propelled the house to a new level of success.

From 2001 to 2005, the creative director, Phoebe Philo, has continued the Chloe legacy of luxurious, audacious pret-a-porter whilst stamping the house with her own unique signature : sexy daywear, fluid lines, graceful and distinctly modern diaphanous tops.

On October 11, 2006 a new chief designer has been appointed, Paulo Melim Anderson he becomes part of the Chloe design legacy.

Just like Grace Kelly and Maria Callas did before them, young stars like Kirsten Dunst, Natalie Portman and Lou Doillon have fallen in love with the soft elegance of the French house.

On 2008 38 year old Hannah MacGibbon was appointed as new chief designer for the French Fashion House Chloe, taking over from Sweden's Paulo Melim Andersson. No reason was given for Anderson's departure. MacGibbon was an assistant for Valentino until 2001 when Phoebe Philo took her to be part of her Chloe design team, along with fellow Brit designer Stella McCartney.

Little is known of the designer, who is now set to be at the fashion spotlight, time will tell how things will work out; in the meantime the fashion world will eagerly wait for her high-energies & her vitality looks for Chloe.

Chanel

Chanel

Picasso called her "the woman with the most sense in Europe". George Bernard Shaw gave her the title "fashion wonder of the world". Inarguably unique, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel developed her own creativity to become an uncompromising visionary, the designer who invented 20th century women's fashion.

Gabrielle Chanel took on this nickname after her 1905 performance of the song "Qui qu'a vu Coco dans le Trocadero" for a crowd of uniformed admirers at La Rotonde, a music hall in a small provincial town.

At a time when it was unheard of for women to call the shots, Chanel founded an internationally successful business. This avant-garde attitude earned her a coterie of creative virtuosos. Picasso, Salvador Dali, Stravinsky and Diaghilev were just a few of the admirers who fell under the spell of her supreme talent and legendary wit. Whether as lovers, benefactors, or recipients of her own generosity Chanel attracted some of the most powerful, talented and eccentric men of her days.

Chanel was the first designer to create a boutique that offered its customers the chance to try out a "total look" in a non-fussy environment. The hundred shops bearing her name today continue her tradition of harmony and minimalism, allowing breathing space for the products - and the customers.

Chanel built her business from scratch, and all her life maintained the desire to remain staunchly independent. Today her company remains privately owned, making it something of a rarity in the luxury market. Mademoiselle Chanel's avant-garde thinking, which made The House of CHANEL unique at the beginning of the last century, is still modern today. "Nothing is as beautiful as an empty space. It needs to be properly furnished, with quiet things".

Chanel continues to transcend conventions and re-invent chic. Artistic director Karl Lagerfeld assertively and whimsically pushed the boundaries of the unmistakable Chanel look, reacting intuitively to the speed of the changing times.

Burberry

Burberry is a classic elegant British fashion house; its distinctive check pattern has become one of the most widely copied trademarks. Both HM Queen Elizabeth and HRH the Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants. Today, Burberry's trademark products are its fashionable handbags and exclusive fragrances. The current Design Director is Christopher Bailey.

Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Hampshire, England. By 1870 the business had established itself by focusing on the development of outdoors attire. In 1880 Thomas Burberry invented a hardwearing, water-resistant, breathable fabric named gabardine (patented in 1888). In 1891 Burberry opened an emporium in the Haymarket, London, which still stands today and is the site of Burberry's corporate headquarters. In 1904, the Burberry Equestrian Knight Logo was developed containing the Latin word "Prorsum" meaning forwards and registered as a trademark. In 1911 they also became the outfitters for Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, and Ernest Shackleton, who lead a 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica.

In 1914 Burberry was appointed by the War Office to adapt its officer's coat, the result was the modern day "trench coat" that became after the war, popular with civilians. The iconic Burberry check was created in the 1920's and used as a lining in its trench coats. Over the years, it has been popularized by Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films and Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. In 1967 the Burberry Check, now a registered trademark, was widely used on its own for items including umbrellas, scarves and luggage.

Christopher Bailey is now Design Director of the largest British luxury brand. Born in 1971, Bailey graduated from the BA Fashion Design course at The University of Westminster in 1990, before going on to attend London's Royal College of Art, he graduated with a Masters in Fashion in 1994. Moved to New York and worked for designer Donna Karan before becoming Senior Designer for Gucci womenswear in 1996. Christopher Bailey was awarded British Fashion Designer of the Year in 2005. Since his arrival at the label, Burberry has earned a record $167 million in profits

Balenciaga

In 1918 Cristobal Balenciaga founded his first haute couture house in San Sebastian, Spain. Local admiration for his designs was so strong that a second haute couture house was opened in Madrid and a third in Barcelona. In 1937, 10, Avenue George V became the Parisian home of Cristobal Balenciaga's creative influence. Balenciaga's Paris flagship store is still located at this address.

Balenciaga soon came to embody Parisian elegance. Cristobal Balenciaga was hailed as 'The Couturier of Couturiers' and 'The Master of us all'' by designer Christian Dior.

In 1946, the House of Balenciaga launched its first perfume, 'Le Dix', aptly named after its first atelier, 10, Avenue George V. 'Le Dix' attracted the same acclaim as the famous Balenciaga couture pieces, and the perfume soon even rivalled that of Coco Chanel herself. In 1968, Balenciaga closed his couture house, to the deep dismay of his favorite clients. Countess Mona Bismarck lamented the event by locking herself indoors for three days.

Cristobal Balenciaga died in his home country of Spain in 1972. His nephews then took the helm of the business. In 1978, control of the House of Balenciaga, including the important fragrance business, passed to Hoechst and then to Group Jacques Bogart in 1986.

In 1995, Nicolas Ghesquiere was hired by the House, initially as a designer for the licensed products activity. He became creative director for the House's own ready-to-wear and accessories collection in 1997.

In 2001, Gucci Group, in partnership with Nicolas Ghesquiere as creative director, acquired the House of Balenciaga, now well on its way towards recreating the influence and respect that the house commanded in its former heydays.

Today, the House of Balenciaga creates women's and men's ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, sold worldwide.

This 17 year old Russian stunner, a first year Psychology student at the Moscow state university, got into fashion without any "fashion knowledge", she didn’t read fashion magazines and had no idea about fashionable designer brands but she admitted she had wanted to become a model since the age of 6.

The beautiful young Brit was born on February 16, 1983 with the name of Laura Hollins. She worked in a fish & chip store in Manchester before she was discovered (much like a fairytale Cinderella story…) where she met her best friend, the designer Henry Holland of "House of Holland", and creator of the Holland rhyming slogans T-shirts, with whom she was walking in Kentish town when she was spotted by a Models 1 agency scout.

Agyness became a star, appearing on every major fashion runway for the biggest names in the fashion world, gracing magazine covers, presenter & face of "House of Holland" & for Burberry, Gold by Giles Deacon, the muse for designer Jeremy Scott, winning the 2007 "Model of the year" award at the British Fashion Awards and high-street giant Zara has ordered Agyness's image mannequins… it seems like she is everywhere!

Agyness is well known for her super cute bleached cropped hair and her unique quirky fashion style which consists of random, inexpensive bits all thrown together along with cool stuff she's spotted on the spur of the moment, or as she calls it:" proper mad". Her swift rise to fame over the past year along with her distinctive style gained her the title "the new Kate Moss"; it seems like no matter what this beauty wears catches on as a trend.

Besides modeling the young beauty also plays in a band named "Lucky Knitwear", she sings with the band Five O'Clock Heroes the track "Who" and recently formed her own band "Gene Jacket". Currently our favorite gal is shooting for a short film titled "The Right Side of My Exultant Brain" co-written by Agyness's band mate Alanna Masterson, Agyness plays an imaginary friend alongside Dustin Hoffman's son, Jake.

Agyness now lives in New-York with her boyfriend, Josh Hubbard, guitarist with the "Paddingtons", enjoys her career, collecting royal memorabilia, which she displays next to her "Sex Pistols" souvenirs. "It's bonkers", she says, "and very Agyness".
